It is nearly Halloween once again, and the huge range of Halloween goodies available in mainstream stores made me think- why isn’t Halloween made into more of an event? Like a creepy Christmas or something suchlike. Seriously though, it could be turned into much more than just Trick Or Treating and bobbing for apples. Plus, there’s more out there than just toffee apples to give out as Halloween gifts for everyone.

It isn’t just kids that can celebrate Halloween. Taking it as the commercial version of Halloween and not the religious festival observed by the pagan community (Samhain, prononced ‘Sow-en’ or ‘Savven’ depending on who you talk to), Halloween can be a blast for kids and adults, and can serve as a bonding experience for families. Involving children in Halloween styled games can be a great way to entertain youngsters and educate them on traditional pastimes (even when their origins have become so obscured by popular culture). Dressing up, getting made up as witches and monsters and the like can be fantastic fun for all involved, and properly supervised Trick-Or-Treating is a great thing for making memories.

Another great method for making a Halloween night memorable for children would be to gather a group of them together for a mini Halloween party before Trick-or-treating. read them a spooky story from the proliferation of kid’s horror series that are on the market, or show a suitable movie.

But Halloween isn’t limited to the domain of kids, and nor should it be. With all manner of themed events on in clubs, cinemas and so on there’s a ton that the adult Halloweener can sink their teeth into (sorry). There’s a great deal of Halloween themed merchandise that would make great gifts for loved ones, such as licensed horror movie memorabilia and other horror merchandise such as action figures, posters, statues, and the movies themselves. You could check out things like the ever-creepy Living Dead Dolls figures, or the movie collectibles created by MacFarlane Toys, NECA and Sideshow Collectibles.

Want a great Halloween evening in? How about you gather a selection of friends, some suitably kitsch horror movies (Go for the cheese more than the hardcore dark stuff- zombie films, cheap B-movies, Chucky, Underworld, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and its billion sequels, films you can shout at), Halloween snacks (stock up on kids snacks and themed sweets- there’s nobody saying the grown-ups can’t have some fun too), add some suitably camp music (I recommend ‘Project 1950′ and ‘American Psycho’ by the Misfits, and anything by the Cramps) and voila, you have the makings of a fun Halloween party in your own home. Granted, that sounds like a typical night in at our place, but still, there are people out there who are actually normal. Somewhere. I think. get your place decked out with cobwebs and skulls and make an event out of it.

When choosing movies for your Halloween night, I’d suggest finding a bunch of 80s horror titles, as they really do capture the right fun atmosphere you’d need for an evening making fun of everything with your friends. Why 80s? Listen. While some may argue we are enjoying something of a resurgence in ‘true’ horror movies, with your million SAW sequels and million remakes of classics, I am left wondering what happened to the horror films that would have you yelling ‘COOL!’ amidst your screams. The 1980s are a fine example of an era in which horror films had all the horror stuff down pretty well yet mixed in a liberal dose of humour and fun without becoming parodies. While horror has become either more serious or more bland in recent years, with endless repetitions of the same old themes, old schlock fiends like myself are left wanting something that isn’t being delivered, namely films that you want to see again.

You see, a major problem with current horror cinema is that companies are making PRODUCT instead of FILMS. You can go into any DVD outlet and find rack upon rack of Wrong Turn/Scream/Hostel/Halloween knockoffs that are cheap and easy to make, and there’s barely a memorable title amongst them.

I’m not just craving the old days though- contemporary horror is missing something. Look at the 80s. Evil Dead 2. Fright Night. The Lost Boys. Pumpkinhead. Elm Street. Hellraiser. Vamp. Return of the Living Dead. Hell, even Rawhead Rex was better than much of the current output masquerading as horror. All of these horror movies had their scares and their gore, but there was a definite fun quality to each of them. They hit their beats so well you could almost pick out the rhythm. I’d love to see a return to that sort of structuring. Many recent films and their subsequent franchises don’t seem to want to do anything new with the format they are beating like a particularly dead horse.

Want a fun evening’s viewing? Check out any of the following horror flicks for some entertainment with your gore:

Creepshow, Day of the Dead, Trick or Treat, Poltergeist, The Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, An American Werewolf in London, Bad Dreams, Hellraiser, Evil Dead 2, Return of the Living Dead 2: Hellraiser II, A Nightmare on Elm street, Re-animator, Scanners, The Burning, Class of Nuke ‘Em High (okay, this is a spoof but it still kicks ass), From Beyond, House, 976:Evil, Witchboard, Warlock, The Thing, Bad Taste, Cat People, Child’s Play, Cat’s Eye, Chopping Mall (BEST. TITLE. EVER), Dead Zone, The Gate, The Hunger, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Monster Squad, Society, Sorority babes in the Slime-ball Bowl-O-Rama….. Jeez, there’s thousands of ‘em. Go seek out some fun.

There are so many ways to make your Halloween a fun night to remember. Start off with a movie night as suggested above, then go along to a themed party or concert. Preferably in costume. Check local listings for events in your area that you can go along to and take part in. If all this sounds like a no-brainer, that’s because it is. With a little effort you can transform what has become a relentlessly commercial day into something you can genuinely enjoy without a massive amount of cost. Halloween celebrations shouldn’t be all about handing out sweets to bored kids on your doorstep- it should be enjoyed and relished. I mean, how often can you actually run around with a plastic trident and horns on during the rest of the year? Actually, don’t answer that.

The University of Texas at Austin is one of the five largest universities in the country, and currently nearly fifty thousand students attend the university, which is home to the U.T. Longhorns. Most of the students live in the U. T. campus area, which encompasses an area from Interstate 35, which runs along the eastern perimeter, to Lamar Boulevard, which circles the western edge of the campus, including numerous fraternity and sorority houses.

The campus also extends to Martin Luther King to the south and the campus itself is just a mile or so north of the State Capitol Building and the Capitol complex. The northern edge is roughly around 27th Street, and among these fours borders are some of the most interesting sights in the Austin area.

There are many nice apartment buildings, condominium projects and single as well as multiple family dwellings in the campus area, with prices affordable enough for new students and nice enough for faculty, grad students and the more affluent. There are many “commune-style” homes in the area, which require the residents to share the chores, bills, meals and other expenditures and are very affordable due to the shared financial input of the inhabitants, but don’t offer quite as much privacy as a traditional apartment complex.

However, these residences do offer more of a home-like atmosphere, which appeals to the newer students. Many of the commune-style homes, apartments, condos, sororities and fraternities are situated within a block or two of “the Drag”, which is how the students refer to Guadalupe Street, the major thoroughfare through the campus area. North of the University of Texas is the neighborhood of Hyde Park which some students can on occasion find a house to rent.

But since Hyde Park has become a more desirable neighborhood over the last 10 years rents can be expensive. If students go a little farther north they find the North Loop neighborhood where rents are a little more affordable.

The east side of “the drag” skirts the western edge of campus proper, which includes the U.T. Tower, student union, various education halls, and the West Mall, where campus-related political gatherings are held outdoors. Many students can be found reading, walking to and from class, or eating on the steps and benches which are strategically located in the west campus area, or at many of the food kiosks and stands, which feature ethnic fast foods of all kinds, especially many oriental and Indian foods.

Students of all nationalities attend U.T., and all of them can find regional cuisine in the area, even on the campus itself, with the Texas Union offering a wide selection of meals, drinks and snacks. The other side of “the drag” encircles an area which is full of shopping boutiques, churches, student centers, restaurants, bookstores and one of the largest assortments of street vendors in the Austin area.

The street vendors sell a little bit of everything, but seem to specialize in silver jewelry and Indian clothing, as well as hats, shirts, other clothing items, music, posters and memorabilia. These items are usually quite inexpensive, and a vast selection of styles, colors, and regional favorites can be found in the numerous stalls full of merchandise which line the west side of Guadalupe Street. There are also ice cream shops, pinball parlors, and many clubs, some of which offer live music.

Traditionally, competitive online games such as MMORPGs have been thought of as a boy’s sport, while, gaming for girls has been much more passive. Dress up games are a common genre of online games that girls and women of all ages seem to enjoy. Most dress up games allow girls to customize a virtual doll by choosing the doll’s clothing, hair, makeup, and accessories. However, once the dress up part is over, so is the fun.

A new era of Dress Up games is on the rise…Dress Up 2.0. In Dress Up 2.0, girls not only have fun with the fashion part of the game, but they are also able to compete with other members of the community. These competitions are fashion battles to determine which doll is better dressed. The best dressed is typically decided by the members of the community through voting.

Dress Up 2.0 also makes dress up more intense by adding a ranking system to the game. Members are given stats for how well they do in the fashion battles and these stats determine their ranking compared to other members. Most Dress Up 2.0 games display the top ranked dolls on a Leader Board of some sort, giving them fame and recognition for consistently putting together great outfits for their doll.

In the spirit of MMORPGs, features such as quests and guilds are available in some Dress Up 2.0 games to keep their users engaged. Quests are fashion-related tasks that a user must complete to advance within the game. These quests may include things like buying certain clothing pieces for their doll, winning a number of fashion battles, or voting on a specific number of fashion battles. Successfully completing these tasks give users a way to earn in-game currency and stats to boost their ranking.

In Dress Up 2.0 games, guilds are comparable to sororities. They give members an avenue to meet other users who share the same fashion interests. Keeping with the competitive aspect of Dress Up 2.0 games, guilds are able to compete against other guilds. Imagine a guild of Emo dressed dolls battling a guild of Preppy dressed dolls to determine which has the better fashion sense. It definitely makes for interesting entertainment.

Quite simply, Dress Up 2.0 has taken dress up games to the next level. Users who find themselves bored with the short solitaire play of traditional dress up games should seek for competitive Dress Up 2.0 games. These games offer a more intense and immersive aspect to doll dress up games.

Getting cheap car insurance would be a priority of someone who lacks budget yet wants to protect one’s self and loved ones. Here are tips that can help you make your car insurance cheap in terms of money spending. These tips would not sacrifice the quality of your car insurance but to make it easy on your wallet.

The first tip is to ask for multiple discounts. You can insure two cars for the same price of insuring one car. Make sure to inform your insurance agent so that you can get this discount on your car insurance. You can have also a multiple discounts if your second car that you plan to sell will be kept on liability.

The second tip to get a cheap auto insurance is to choose comprehensive storage coverage. This is possible if you car will be stored for any period of time. You can save money by keeping the car insurance you have in a comprehensive coverage during the storage time.

The third tip you can do is to update your membership in an organization. A car insurance company may offer group discounts to members of organization like credit unions, fraternities, and sororities. Contact your insurance company about the list of affiliations whom they offer discounts to.

You can do also this fourth tip which is to stick with the yearly policies of your car insurance. Car insurance companies have yearly policies that you can choose from to save money. This means that if you select a one year policy, the rates of your car insurance would not increase in one year. Unlike the six months policy, the rates may change after that short period of time and you need to avail another policy.

The fifth tip is to lower your liability, comprehensive, collision, or medical payments coverages. How can this be done? You can do this by increasing the deductibles of your insurance car.

You can also do this sixth tip by rechecking your mileage. You can decrease your number of miles driven by minimizing driving to places that are near to your house. You will be asked by your company how many miles you drive to work every day.

The seventh tip which is easy to do is to get theft devices for your car. Your insurance company can give you discount on your car insurance if you have this. You can also opt to include window etching because you will be given another extra discount on your car insurance.

The last tip is you can combine your auto and home policies. It is good to know that many insurance companies give discount to their customers that carry auto and home polices with the same company. This discount can be from 5 percent up to 20 percent!

You can compare car insurance so that you can avail discounts on your insurance. Just make sure that these discounts will not compromise your car insurance coverage unless you will be protected.

Now that autumn leaves are blowing in through the patio door and being tracked into the dining room by the dog, our storied institutions of higher learning have begun the time honored process of educating our young people in the arts, sciences, humanities and professional fields. It is noble work. Included in the curriculum is the act of gathering half a dozen young people each fall who are willing to remove most articles of clothing and paint themselves in the school colors to lead a parade though campus. These and other alcohol induced undignified traditions have become the American Homecoming legacy.

It is surprising that none of these institutions have dedicated resources or brain power to better understand the allure of our Homecoming traditions. But maybe these things really are too simple to fully understand. The dignity that most universities present to the world is underpinned by the creation of an excuse – for a weekend anyway – for getting together with other alums to drink and reminisce about how things were better when they were students.

Homecoming is a uniquely American tradition of inviting parents and alumni to campus for a celebration highlighted by a football game. Ostensibly, these institutions say they want to connect alumni and friends with the student body. While this is fine with the alumni, the schools really want to connect alumni and friends to the Development Office.

Some alumni, though, really do want to ‘connect’ with the student body. This is where it gets interesting. Opportunities to make these connections are readily provided. Parades, rallies, dances and the ample ‘tailgate’ parties allow young and pretty college coeds to mingle freely with male alumni who weren’t quite ready to graduate and are kicking themselves for getting that thesis in on time. And that was ten years ago. Homecoming provides alums with a reason to take part in the festivities and contribute a few bucks to the school. This ensures they are invited back the following year to oogle the cheerleaders and watch the sorority parade while decked out in school sweatshirts and Rolex watches.

To keep up appearances, some Universities have attempted to make Homecoming serious. What a waste of effort! Socializing is the one thing most of us took from our college experience that we really enjoyed. The unfortunate among us then got jobs. We gaze longingly back at the days where the biggest concern was making the beer money hold out without getting a job and getting the seat next to Nikki from the dorm in Accounting 101.

Social gatherings are the staple events of Homecoming, although to keep a good face on things, some schools offer open lectures, symposia, and other things that are rolled out to prop up the illusion of a higher purpose. Then of course there is the football game.

What does a losing school do to celebrate its homecoming? It is an interesting study. Losing schools try to deflect attention from the football program, or, at least they should. Others, such as (then) 2-2 Colorado, declared its home game with #3 Oklahoma as its homecoming game. With a roll of the dice, the Buffalos hung themselves out to all their alumni as well as a sizeable television audience against mighty Oklahoma. There wasn’t any hiding from this one. If the Buffaloes went down, they were to be the laughing stock. If the Buckalo kicker could whack one through from 45 yards with no time left, the Gold and Black were in fact golden.

At last report, the Sooners were spending some time in quiet reflection wondering what hit ‘em. Some years ago, Ralphie the 2,000 pound Buffalo mascot got loose on her pregame run around the field and headed for the Oklahoma bench. Handlers got her back under control, but not before several OU players had to return to the locker room for fresh pants and socks. Even fresh uniforms couldn’t save the Sooners drive for a top BCS spot this year as the Buffs knocked ‘em off 27-24. One has to admire the schools that roll out their toughest home games for Homecoming. Most of the time, this strategy results in a humiliating train wreck.

In honor of American Homecoming traditions, here is a look at how some of the leading and losing football programs are handling Homecoming or have attempted to handle it in years past.

Iowa State – Ames, Iowa residents were treated to this year’s theme “Catch the Cyclone Craze.” Events included a scavenger hunt where participants didn’t know quite what they are looking for, being originally instructed only to find the ‘object’ and that other clues would follow. This exercise is very similar to the situation surrounding the Cyclone running game. Everyone knows the ‘object’ is the football, but still, no one can find it and some of the players have no idea what it looks like.

The Homecoming edition of the ISU Alumni mag included an article on Iowa Wineries, but after this season, it may include one about Iowa Whineries. Purchase of a $2.00 homecoming pin and a red sweatshirt worn to the “Wear Red to Get Fed” event – got the underfed students free admission to a cookout featuring all-you-can-eat pork burgers. Any game the Cyclones picked for Homecoming was going to be a touch one, so it really didn’t matter who showed up.

Army – At least these guys can have a damned real parade – complete with people who know something about marching and a band that can play. And everyone considers it an honor to be in the thing. You can also be sure the cadets won’t be wheeling a keg of beer in a shopping cart behind the band. (They are much more creative about hiding it.) The Corps of Cadets scheduled in Tulane this year for what was at least an entertaining game – a 20-17 victory for Army.

Syracuse – Events included the “Orange Friendzy” offering free Dreamcicles and a seminar on crime scene investigation. The ones giving this seminar will be looking at how the Orange managed its only road win against then #18 Louisville. The Orange Homecoming date was October 14 vs. Rutgers. If the Orange team that plucked the Louisville Cardinals had shown up for this one, it would have been interesting. However, the Orange sent out the team that lost its lunch in Iowa City (a 35-0 loss to the Hawkeyes.) Homecoming day will go down as the “Orange Endzy” as this season can’t end soon enough.

Utah State – The Aggie Admin types declared its 9/22 date against San Jose St. as its Homecoming Game. Something called a Paint Dance was to be held. This was either a deeply meaningful tradition or an event designed to show off young tuition-paying students soaked in non natural pigments. We will hope it is the former (or maybe not). There was also a run walk or roll event – which was interesting the morning after trying to get a drink in Utah. Most participants showed up dazed and sober. The school provided Aggie treats and a True Aggie night – although what those events actually were remains a mystery.

San Jose State – In an effort to set itself apart, San Jose State put a heavy academic focus on this year’s festivities – highlighted by a banned book discussion and debate. This might explain what happened to the playbooks. San Jose State is currently 3-5 claiming wins over Utah State, Cal Davis and the Idaho Vandals. SJ State at least had the sense to set up its homecoming game against Idaho.

North Carolina – The NoCareOlina web site only listed Homecoming events from 2006 – including something called Victory Village. It is a lonely place this year as the Blue Tar Heelers up to last week, had a whopping two victories – one over powerhouse James Madison U and a stunning upset of Miami. So the Victory Village is littered with losses to schools no one has ever heard of and one win over a school no one has ever heard of, and one over a team from football’s top tier. Go Figure.

NC State – NCStaters arranged a ‘Pack Howl’ and pep rally for this Homeconing season. One suspects that the Pack Howl was preceded by a billion sponsored tailgate parties and tents. The universal allure of the Delta Zeta tent overrides the Wolfpack’s dismal performance on the field. And this invites the question whether the over inebriated alums are set to howl at the football record or at the DZ Sorority float.

Duke – In a true harmonic convergence of alcohol related events, the 2006 celebration combined Homecoming with Oktoberfest. If the Germans can make beer and dance after drinking, Duke should hire some of ‘em to build a football program. Right now, Duke has one win under their belts – which is a significant improvement over last year. Other special events include hospital tours – presumably the one where they take the Duke players after the Florida State game.

New Mexico State – The school invested a great deal of brain power in their Homecoming. Included in the schedule was a Beans, Burritos and Beer alumni event. This was to be followed by a bonfire. At least these two events weren’t scheduled too closely together or campus would look like the Trinity site a few miles north. Reba also performes this year, but on the stage and not on the field. The Aggies looked into whether or not she had any eligibility left as they were going to throw her in at cornerback.

Notre Dame? – No listing of late for any Homecoming events. Perhaps the Irish don’t celebrate it. That would be understandable this year. Most of the campus is still in the deep depression that occurs when devoted fans face up to a solidly losing season. It is tough to celebrate when you are 0-8. Well at least the Irish haven’t sunk quite to that level this year but they can see 0-8 from where they are. If you included losses from last year, the Irish went 8 straight without a win before going to the Rose Bowl and waking up the UCLA Bruins. Even this win isn’t causing many Irish fans to want to hang out in the stadium parking lot. They’ll stay inside to drink their beer or go to Disneyland.

Idaho – You know when your team plays on the road and the host schools schedule you for their Homecoming, your team is a dog. But what does Idaho do for their own Homecoming? The Idaho Vandals boast a Homecoming theme called “Living the Legacy.” It is curious why a legacy of Vandalism is something to celebrate. Idaho managed a win over Cal Poly this year.. that is it. These on-field distasters don’t pull more bucks from the alumni, so the UI folks are gonna have to do something special… like pull out a win.

The internet has made a huge impact on making things vastly available in just one click. This technological influence reaches millions of people from across the globe regardless of status. Students benefit to a large extent on such technical authority, especially on the category of research. The internet has become an online library providing students references whether for scientific investigation or even the simplest book report. Similarly, college student information exchange makes accessible all undergraduate needs from books and supplies to part-time jobs and tutoring.

Free web advertisements contribute significantly in the dissemination of information regarding the needs and wants of students. College student information exchange is about posting ads that people can view and respond to, should they be interested.

College student information exchange is the place to go whether you are sub-letting an apartment or looking for one; whether you are selling or buying a required textbook; whether you want a tutoring job or need tutorial; whether you need a job or are offering one. It is an extensive array of opportunities. Signing up in behalf of a group is acceptable. This may be your fraternity or sorority or your football team. Free ads are a perfect venue to announce events organized by a group like concerts, plays, workshop-seminars, competitions, science fairs, and even social gatherings.

As the term implies, free ad sites welcome users to post ads without any charge. It just makes sense to post your ad to as many sites as possible to get more publicity. This is most helpful for college students looking for a job. Going to college is expensive that these students need all the financial aid they can get—college loans, scholarships, and the likes. Getting a job is indeed an option to many. On the other hand, those who have jobs to offer can post their ads for college students to see. They may be institutions offering internship or secretarial jobs specifically for college undergraduates. They may also be ordinary households looking for tutors or a baby-sitter, anything alike to answer their household needs.

College student information exchange has sustained a considerable number of students jobs and other pertinent information to meet their necessities.

Why does everyone try to escape the high cost of a Black Address?

Why after more than 40 years after the riots of the 60’s does North Minneapolis, as well as most Black communities, look like a war zone of abandon buildings, of a boarded up business district, patrolled streets by squads of police similar to Iraq?

What? Huh? Yes. Does this fact appear shocking? If not, why not?

I ask, “Why does everyone try to escape the high cost of the Black address”?

Here is a list of a few of the events held by or for the Black community in the finest hotels, convention centers, and banquet facilities in America. None of these events however, will be held in ghetto neighborhoods.

The annual Minneapolis Urban League Dinner will be held in the Hilton located in downtown Minneapolis. The annual NAACP convention held in the finest hotel in NYC. The annual General Mills sponsored Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast held in Minneapolis Convention center. The annual corporate awards sponsored by Twin Cities Black MBAs. The annual galas held by the Black Sororities or Fraternities, and other professional organizations. This behavior repeats itself throughout Black America.

What? Huh? Yes. Does this fact appear shocking? If not, why not?

Ok, so that you might have another approach to viewing my point, let’s think of the opposite. The National Association of Any White Organization of America will be holding their annual events in areas such as North Minneapolis, Harlem in New York, South Side of Chicago, Gary, Indiana, or a ghetto nearest to you soon. Picture becomes clearer?

Let’s take a look at the ramification of such activities from the both the economic standpoint and social aspects. Let’s make sure we are speaking terms of dollars, millions of them.

The Minneapolis Urban League will be hosting their 83rd Annual Dinner at the Hilton Hotel located in beautiful downtown Minneapolis with guest speaker Michael Eric Dyson. Admission is $80 per ticket or a table of 10 for $1,000 (I know the math does not add up, but let’s leave that one alone). All the proceeds will go to the Hilton except for a small percentage to the Minneapolis Urban League. Expected are 800 guests which will include the community movers and shakers, politicians, etc. etc. etc.

When questioned, various reasons will be given why the events will not be held in the Black community for which the Minneapolis Urban League serves such as safety, available facility, and most importantly accommodations for getting that $80 ticket or $1,000 for a table of 10 (again, this is not a math class). Let’s keep this real as the targeted audience is supposedly corporate wallets. Being that the Twin Cities has several corporations, none of which are located within the Black impoverished community of North Minneapolis of which the Minneapolis Urban League is located. Ironically, corporations often buy the tickets as a token gesture, then pass them to their Black employees with the intent they will represent them proudly at the dinner.

Here is where this gets interesting. Given the Minneapolis Urban League has held these events for 83 years, where do you think the original events were held? Regardless if the event was the Urban League or any other benevolent society from the past? At what point in our Black history did it become more acceptable to hold events outside the community? Was this considered a step up, moving on out, what does it signify? The Minneapolis Urban League holds up the Black community as to which they supposedly represent as the benefactors of the proceeds of these events as due numerous other Black organizations. Well, let’s keep this real. The Urban League, as well as the others, are soliciting funds to pay salaries of the staff more so than administer programs. The Urban League has long since lost the right to state they are representatives for the lower and impoverished for which they exist today, or the views of Black America. The Urban League was not founded on the principles of assisting the lower population. Membership or support from the many individuals the corporations will give token dinner tickets will be almost non-existence. Might you know who the name of the President of the Minneapolis Urban League, or say the St. Paul, or even the National Urban League? If not, why not?

Let’s take a look at the money. Who will get the bulk of the proceeds? The Hilton receives payment for the facility, the meals, the bars, and most likely the hotels rooms because they will give a great rate for the attendees. More importantly, they get to keep the dollars away from the Black community. Oh, sure the Urban League will receive a few dollars. Now the Hilton has just received a huge injection of cash to help maintain their fine establishment. Will the Hilton be locating in a ghetto neighborhood in the near future? No, and nor should they. The president of the Minneapolis Urban League will be smiling from ear to ear as he pays the bill for the event. Our fine Black organizations keep going to Hilton’s.

Now would it be too much to request the catering be performed by a local Black catering company? Some of that good ole soul food served on that fine linen table cloth. Not. The Hilton has an exclusive catering contract that will not allow that great soul food from that Black owned and operated catering company. Imagine, even more importantly, the Hilton does that to ensure the needed cash flow to sustain and grow their catering operations from a portion of the $80 dollar ticket prices corporate America will be forking over to them.

Might these fine Black organizations planned properly whose focus is on helping the Black Community sponsoring all these dress up affairs chip in together, what might just happen? Hum, a business as successful as the Hilton might develop. Imagine the possible creation of a facility that can accommodate 800 people for a fine event. Wait, consider this, if safety is a concern, will the Black communities all across America not be a better place with more jobs created? Is economic prosperity not a deterrent for crime within the community? Isn’t that why the Hilton chose to operate in the better communities, more disposable income within the communities to pay for their services? This in not an attack on the Hilton, they are making money one customer at a time as any business should.

Let’s recap my earlier questions. Why does everyone try to escape the high cost of the Black address? At what point in our Black history did it become more acceptable to hold events outside the community? Was this considered a step up, moving on out, what does it signify? What? Huh? Yes. Does this fact appear shocking? If not, why not?

Help answer the question about Sorority
what can you benefit from joining a sorority and why is there such a large fee to pay? ?
I am interested in joining a sorority, but I heard a rumor around campus that to join you may have to pay $800. What does this money go towards? I really want to do this, but my parents aren't feeling the idea. I tried convincing them and told them that the sorority promotes sisterhood and service to all mankind, but they still aren't convince. What more can i tell them so that they can feel convinced to help pay with the fee so i can join?

Dormitories

The University will have a certain number of dormitories available for students. In some cases, it may even be mandatory for freshmen to stay in the dorms and then your search for a cheap apartment in Austin Texas would end right there. Plus, dorms are not what they used to be. They are clean and comfortable, with places for students to study and hang out and frankly, they are supposed to be better for a student since they give a sense of community and a chance to interact with other students in the university.

On Campus Apartments

There may be some cheap apartments for rent in Austin Texas which fall into a pseudo category. These kinds of places are somewhere between a dorm and a full fledged apartment. The idea here is that your student can live on campus, (usually only if they’re married, but exceptions are sometimes made) and still have a private apartment. This offers the chance to have the privacy of a proper place to live and study while still living within the confines of the university.

Fraternities and Sororities

Today, fraternities and sororities are not what they once were. The typical image that people have is that the sororities are a bunch of snobish girls who look down their noses at everyone else and think they are God’s gift to womandom and the fraternities are places for drunkeness and toga parties. While both of these things can happen at fraternities and sororities, would you believe that most Greek campus organizations also foster a sense of community, requiring their membership to actively engage in the community and to do acts of charity in the community surrounding campus? They also often have lectures in the house and some of them even arrange study partners for their members.

Off Campus Housing

If you choose to go with cheap apartments for rent which are not on the campus in Austin, Texas, then you should make sure of several things. You should make sure that the apartments are within a comfortable commuting distance from the school so that your child will be able to get to classes easily and you should make sure that the place is a safe neighborhood. No matter how cheap an apartment is, you don’t want to head to Austin for a funeral, God forbid.

Having had several years of experience in interior design, coupled with a passion for all things fashion, I’ve helped more than a few friends, sorority sisters and family members clean out and organize their closets and jewelry boxes. What’s frustrating to me is that I’ve found some really beautiful necklaces hidden away in drawers, tangled in a heaping mess or carelessly thrown around. These pieces are decorations in themselves, so I’ve come up with some creative ways to display these necklaces, even if you’re working with a small space.

On candy dishes – I love the look of necklaces laying out like dessert. Grab a simple 3-tiered candy dish and put it on your dresser or nightstand. Put delicate necklaces on top, add medium size beaded necklaces to the middle, and finish off with chunky statement necklaces on the bottom.

Hanging – If you’re going to hang your necklaces, do it with style. For example, use colored push pins and create an arrangement on your wall. Or, try something fun like knobs. You can use these inside your closet on an empty wall next to your bureau. This makes it easy to see what you have and to grab a necklace when you’re in a hurry or on the go.

Draped – If you have a small apartment or studio, try draping your necklaces over the bases of metal, glass or acrylic lamps. This creates a romantic look and adds some interest and personality to your lighting. You can also drape necklaces over picture frames or bulletin boards. The key is to keep your space looking stylish and whimsical without looking cluttered.

So instead of shoving your necklaces to the back of your jewelry box put them on display instead. You’ll love having everything at your fingertips and the room will feel a lot brighter too.

She may be your nearest and dearest, an especially close co-worker, a childhood chum, or a sorority sister. Perhaps she’s your favored sibling or a tried-and-true neighbor. Whatever the case, a truly close friend is someone whose love and support we want to celebrate. Sometimes it’s a challenge to find the perfect way to express gratitude for that special friendship. Why not consider a charm bracelet to say it all for you?

Your BFF<br />

“Friendship isn’t a big thing – it’s a million little things,” said an unknown author, and it aptly describes what true friendship looks like. For all the times she’s been there for you, through the big times and the little, having a lifelong best friend is a treasure above others. She watches your kids in a pinch, help planned your 40th birthday party, came over to care for you during a prolonged illness. You share everything, including the day-to-day events as well as those “earth-shattering” secrets. It’s hard to imagine life without her.

Now you want to return the kindness in a way that truly shows her how much she means to you. Imagine her delight when she opens the Danish-inspired charm bracelet you created just for her. Your thoughtfulness will shine through as she examines the beautiful charms made of sterling silver, gold, birthstones or Murano glass. Take her to lunch or on a girl’s overnighter and present her this delightful token of your affection.

Your Co-Worker

If there’s gossip to be heard, she keeps in you the loop. She’s quick to help you out with disgruntled customers or cover for you in a meeting. The highlight of your day is to catch up over a quick lunch or morning coffee break. It’s true that people help make the job, and your favorite co-worker certainly makes your job more enjoyable. In fact, neither of you can imagine the office without one another. Follow the example of one woman who worked in a bank and wanted to honor her friendship with a co-worker. She created a charm bracelet with charms that symbolized the woman’s vocation, including a small money bag. The co-worker was delighted with the creation. And on the more stressful days, the bracelet gave her friend a chuckle and smile.

Your Sister

“Having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of,” wrote Amy Li. She’s the girl you may have loved to hate when you were young but she’s also the one who will always be there for you. Your memories through the years are like a strong chord between the two of you. Even separated by distance, a sister is as close as a phone call. For all the shenanigans you found yourselves in and for the moments when she gave you the kind of support no one else could, showing her how important she is more important than ever. This sisterly bond is beautifully represented through a sterling silver or gold charm bracelet, decorated with charms and beads she’ll love to gaze at and show off. A best friends charm especially reminds her that no amount of childhood sibling rivalry will ever change her status as one of your dearest friends.

Your Neighbor

Just like our families, we can’t choose our neighbors, so consider yourself especially fortunate when you find a neighbor that becomes a dear friend. Whether sharing recipes, parenting struggles, or neighborhood gossip, proximity and experience has made your neighbor a dear friend. Perhaps your children have become neighborhood chums or your husbands enjoying grilling together on the weekends. She collected your mail during a week’s vacation and watched your dog to as well. Over the years you have developed a deep friendship over the proverbial fence. You’ve both promised to stay neighbors as long as time and circumstances will allow.

For all the ways she’s blessed your life, a charm bracelet will express to her your appreciation for the endless little ways she’s encouraged you. Choose flowery and fun charms that will lighten up her life every time she puts it on. Pick her favorite colors or the colors of her family’s birthstones to create a charm bracelet uniquely hers; a charm bracelet that reminds her she’s the very best neighbor in the world.
